Two Door Cinema Club; This is The Life
If I had to put together a soundtrack for this year, this song would be track one.
We finally got flights and accommodation sorted out for our Hainan Island adventure!
As much as I miss Sydney beaches, I can’t express how excited I am to spend a week in the Hawaii of China. Tropical times, here we come!
One of the things I love about this year is how refreshing it feels to live a new life in another country. It’s like being a little kid again and being blown away by every bright light, new flavours and the funny looking kid in the sandbox.
The language barrier is still an everyday struggle, but we’re slowly breaking through. From speaking to our ayi to booking flights, every little linguistic victory you have keeps you coming back for more. It always reminds me of how I take simple things for granted in Sydney, like ordering a cup of coffee or looking for superglue in the supermarket.
You learn a lot of things when you live and study abroad. One of the key lessons I have learnt is to enjoy the ride and not let the little things kill your buzz. So what if you can’t find mint for your thai beef salad, who cares if you paid a little too much for that handbag, or if you can’t read the menu at your local Chinese restaurant. You don’t just make do with what you’ve got, you’ve got to show some love and make yourself a Shanghai beef salad instead.
Two months in and there’s not looking back,
this is the life.
